I made this delicate and sturdy pendant from the impression of a sprig from a delicate and sturdy juniper tree growing by Lake Merritt in Oakland, California.

We call it a lake, but really it's a lagoon. It's connected to the ocean. A glacier carved it out about ten thousand years ago. At that point, Juniper trees had been doing their thing on our planet for much much much longer. Two hundred fifty million years ago, when almost everything on earth died, Juniper did not die, and by surviving, helped our world start over.

This particular Juniper tree is a favorite of my neighbor squirrels, who hide bits of fluff in the leaves in case they need to make their nests more cozy later, and it's a favorite of my neighbor crows, who like to perch on top to see what's happening far away.

It's also a favorite of mine.
